LEADERSHIP TIER
ALPHA
The Alpha, or Alpha pair, consist of the highest ranking male and female wolf. They are considered the leaders of the pack, and have the greatest amount of responsibility. They are the first to eat, lead a hunt, breed and fight. The Alpha rank can only be obtained through dominant and submission rituals, fighting for position, or birthright (when not challenged, or until that individual is challenged).
BETA
The Beta wolf is the second in command, the enforcer of pack law and second highest ranking wolf in a pack. There is often one male and female Beta wolf, and they do not necessarily have to be mated. The Beta holds dominance over the subordinate wolves in a pack, and will be the most likely to take over the Alpha position when the time arises.
SUBORDINATE TIER
DELTA
The highest ranking subordinate, recognized for it's ambition and potential as a Beta or Alpha wolf. This wolf is the highest ranking amongst the other subordinates, and will be the first to take a higher position when it becomes available. The Delta wolf is also expected to vie for dominance with the Beta. There is both a male and a female, and they do not have to be mated.
SUBORDINATE
The subordinate wolves of a pack make up the majority of the pack's wolves, and dominance is decided amongst them but rarely officially recognized.
SPECIALTY TIER
OMEGA
The omega wolf is a vital position within a pack, acting as a scapegoat and outlet for the pack's aggression. The omega wolf's main duty in the pack is to diffuse tension with submissive rituals, and affirm everyone's position by displaying it's own. The omega wolf will break up a fight using submission to appease both wolves. Despite being the lowest ranking wolf, the Omega is a respected and loved member of the pack. Their duty to keep the peace and create tranquility between members is essential to any functioning pack. The omega wolf is often made a pup sitter, or will tend to an injured packmate.
SIGHTLESS EYE
Wolves with the Sightless Eye are highly regarded within a pack, and may hold any of the previously listed ranks. This is more of a title than a rank, but is an important role within a pack. Those with the Sightless Eye can sense the lifestream, and are often regarded as the pack's spiritual advisor.
