The Premise
The Regius Arcis literally means The Royal Citadel. Built during the early 1100s this castle has seen many nobles, some weak and some powerful. Its walls have been streaked with the blood of battles won and lost. Hidden in the hills of Ireland, this magnificent castle stands strong against the elements, quiet, it would seem when juxtaposed to the fierce winds and other forces of nature.
For years it stood untouched, hidden away in the dense forest. Haunted, many would say. No one dared venture near for fear of disappearing forever. Silent and desolate, the castle lay bare until one man, a brave and seemingly foolish man, dared step within. That man's name was Julian Charbonneau.
No longer was the castle a sullen place. He brought it to life, throwing parties and inviting the neighboring folk to mingle amongst his men. They thought him strange, that Julian Charbonneau, but no one dared speak foul words in his presence. He was the talk of the town during that lively year of 1310, 1330, 1340. Him and his men brought joy to the people. Pleasure, marriage prospects, happiness. The joy of the land was short lived when the plague tore across the island in 1349
Death, mourning, it was everywhere. Those who knew Julian and his men died, bled out in the streets, some slain by the plague, others by something more sinister. Death would render him helpless. That was the belief, yet he lived on, untouched by the ominous disease.
The year is 1510 and still the Regius Arcis stands high on the hill of Ireland, its stark white walls illuminated by the golden rays of the sun. Yet, none that had ventured there in the past live.
Sons of those proposed dead wander the corridors of Regius Arcis. Daughters and wives of those dead were taken in as slaves and hidden from society in the dungeons. Julian was never seen again. Dead, those who knew him would say.
...They couldn't have been more wrong.

Sweat & Ashes takes place in 1510, during Henry VIII rule in England. It follows the lives of The Regius Coven, a secret vampire covenant hidden in away in Ireland in the Regius Arcis. This secret coven is one of many scattered about Europe, but none are more elite than this. Julian, a regent and official member of the Counseil de Coven has taken refuge in the abandoned castle to seek out prospects for his ranks. His men, yes, only men, are under his leadership and guidance, and tend to their own interests and pleasures while doing his bidding. To be among his ranks is an honor, one that none of them take lightly.
